A Rock Divided by Henrik Häkansson at Alberni by Kengo Kuma, May 2023. The latest public art installation is composed of a 6,000-Ib boulder, found and quartered at a quarry in Squamish, BC. The art piece rests at the northeastern edge of the building facing Alberni Street.
“The vision of this work is thought of as a reflection on the Nature of the elements and the origins of the environment we live in. Possibly reflecting and levitating visions of this Universe as a shared space. Inspired by the surrounding rocks and the clear waters – of Vancouver. The dust that perhaps formed and built this universe. This rock as a mass of compressed dust forged over centuries, divided and reconstructed, levitating its gravity and us, all just bits of dust floating in this galaxy.”
